Tempeh Goreng Sambal

April 3rd, 2022

Adapted from My Plentiful Cooking. The amount of sauce is doubled to account for the vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 8oz package tempeh
  • 2 tbsp sambal paste (can substitute with harissa)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 4 tbsp water
  • 2 tsp coconut sugar (can substitute with brown sugar)

Instructions

  1. Cut tempeh into 1/4" strips and steam for 12-15 minutes. Pat dry with paper towel.
  2. Pan fry tempeh for 2-3 minutes per side. Remove to paper towel covered plate to drain.
  3. Add sambal paste to pan and cook for 2-3 minutes, until fragrant.
  4. Add ketchup, soy sauce, sugar and water to pan. Stir until well-mixed, and add in tempeh. Toss to cover evenly. Serve with rice and veggies (I like roasted broccoli tossed in remaining sauce).
